==Life== Michael was born the second son of '''King Duarte II of Portugal''' and '''Princess Maria Francisca of Brazil'''. With no legitimate male issue, in 1997 King Michael of Romania petitioned the Romanian government to amend the laws of succession to allow for male-preference primogeniture. After a decade of discussion, in 2007, the changes were approved and Michael's wife, Margareta, was named Crown Princess of Romania by her father. Michael, his wife, and daughter subsequently moved to Romania. Michael became Prince Consort of Romania upon the death of his father-in-law in 2017.
