==Life==
Borwin was born the fourth child and only son of '''Grand Duke George Alexander of Mecklenburg-Strelitz''' and '''Archduchess Ilona of Austria'''.

Borwin became heir apparent to the Mecklenburg-Strelitz throne upon his grandfather's death in 1963. He ascended to the throne upon his father's death in 1996. In 2001, he also became Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the two duchies were merged together to form the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg.

==Marriage and Issue==
On 19 July 1986, Borwin married '''Princess Helena of the United Kingdom''' in Neustrelitz. Borwin and Helena had four children, '''Olga, James, Alexander,''' and '''Michael'''.
