In 2015, Bona was outed as a lesbian by an Italian tabloid, who photographed Bona and her then-girlfriend, Charlotte, during a private holiday. 

==Marriage and Issue==
On 16 February 2017, Bona married '''Princess Charlotte of Hanover''' in Hanover. Charlotte and Bona met five years prior at the wedding of Charlotte's cousin, '''Prince Otto Heinrich of Hanover''' to Bona's sister, Victoria. The couple have two children, '''Yolanda''' and '''Filiberto'''.
