Gisela was born the seventh and youngest child of '''Prince Rasso of Bavaria''' and '''Archduchess Theresa of Austria'''.

In 1997, Gisela's husband was named Crown Prince of Saxony by his childless uncle, and the family moved from Bavaria (where they had been living as private citizens) to Saxony to take up royal duties.

Gisela became Queen of Saxony upon her husband's ascension in 2012.
