Laetitia became Grand Duchess of Tuscany upon the ascension of her husband in 1984. Shortly after her divorce, Laetitia's son named her Grand Duchess Mother of Tuscany.

On 19 June 1965, Laetitia married Leopold Franz, Hereditary Grand Duke of Tuscany in Florence. The couple had two sons, Sigismund and Guntram, before divorcing in 1993.
