Stephan was born the only child of Armin, Prince of Lippe and Princess Maria Theresia of Thurn and Taxis.

Marriage and Issue

On 15 October 1994, Stephan married Countess Maria of Solms-Laubach in Detmold. the couple have five children, Bernhard, Heinrich, Benjamin, Luise, and Mathilde.
