Eduard II, Duke of Anhalt (born Prince Eduard of Anhalt on 3 December 1941) is the current reigning Duke of Anhalt. He is also a member of the Austrian Imperial Family as the brother-in-law of Charles II, Emperor of Austria.
Life[edit | edit source]
Eduard was born the fifth and youngest child of Duke Joachim Ernst of Anhalt and Editha von Stephani.
Eduard unexpectedly succeeded to the Anhalt throne upon the premature death of his brother, Friedrich III.
In 2010, Georg Friedrich, Emperor of Germany approved changes to Anhalt succession laws to allow for Eduard's eldest daughter to succeed him.
Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]
On 21 July 1979, Eduard married Archduchess Gabriela of Austria in Dessau. Eduard and Gabriela have three children, Katharina, Eilika, and Felicitas.
