In 1983, Wilhelm Franz's wife was named Tsarevna of Russia and successor to her father, '''[[Emperor Vladimir of Russia|Emperor Vladimir]]'''. Shortly after, he converted to the Eastern Orthodox faith and was given the name Mikhail Pavlovich and the title of Grand Duke of Russia.
