Margareta, Queen of Romania (born Princess Margareta of Romania on 26 March 1949) is the current reigning Queen of Romania. She is also a member of the Portuguese Royal Family as the sister-in-law of Duarte III, King of Portugal.
Life
Margareta was born the eldest child of King Michael of Romania and Princess Anne of Parma.
With no legitimate male issue, in 1997 King Michael petitioned the Romanian government to amend the laws of succession to allow for male-preference primogeniture. After a decade of discussion, in 2007, the changes were approved and Margareta was named Crown Princess of Romania by her father. Margareta, her husband, and daughter subsequently moved to Romania after living in Portugal for twenty-eight years.
Margareta ascended to the throne upon her father's death in 2017.
Marriage and Issue
On 24 July 1979, Margareta married Infante Miguel, Duke of Viseu. Margareta and Miguel have one child, Anne.
