Henri, Count of Monpezat (born Henri, Hereditary Count of Monpezat (11 June 1934 - 12 September 1992) was a French nobleman as the Count of Monpezat. He was also a member of the Danish Royal Family as the consort of Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark.
Life
Henri was born the second child and eldest son of Andre, Count of Monpezat and Renee Doursenot.
In 1992, Henri was killed in an automobile accident near Fredensborg Palace.
Marriage and Issue
In 1964, Henri met Danish royal Princess Margrethe of Denmark at a party in London. Her father, King Frederik, did not approve of the match as he preferred a royal match for his eldest daughter and heir. Frederik stood firm, and the couple broke up by 1967.
In 1983, Margrethe and Henri crossed paths once again when Henri was assigned to the French embassy in Copenhagen. Neither had married in the intervening years, and the couple rekindled their romance. On 10 June 1984, Margrethe and Henri finally married in Copenhagen. The next year, the queen gave birth to her only child, Frederika, at the age of 45.
