Harald V, King of Norway (born Prince Harald of Norway on 21 February 1937) is the current reigning King of Norway. He is also a member of the Swedish Royal Family as the brother-in-law of Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden.
Life
Harald was born the third child and only son of King Olav V of Norway and Princess Martha of Sweden.
Harald became the heir to the throne upon his grandfather's death in 1957.
Marriage and Issue
Harald had a long-term relationship with a Norwegian commoner, Sonja Haraldsen, in the late fifties and early sixties, but was forbidden by his father from marrying her. In 1968, Harald relented to his father's pressure and gave up Haraldsen. Soon after, Harald's engagement to his second cousin, Princess Christina of Sweden, was announced in what was rumored to be an arranged marriage. They were married in Oslo on 29 August 1968. Harald and Christina have five children, Martha Louise, Haakon, Gustaf, Oscar, and Victor.
