Kardam, Prince of Turnovo (2 December 1962 - 7 April 2015) was a member of the Bulgarian Royal Family as the eldest son and heir of Simeon II, Tsar of Bulgaria.

Life[edit | edit source]

Kardam was born the eldest son and heir of Simeon II, Tsar of Bulgaria and Dona Margarita Gomez-Acebo y Cejuela.

In 2008, Kardam and his wife were involved in a serious car accident near Sofia. Kardam suffered severe brain trauma and injuries to his hands. He was placed into an induced coma but was discharged in early 2009. In 2010, however, he suffered a setback and fell into a coma from which he never recovered. He passed away from a lung infection in 2015.

Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]

On 11 July 1996, Kardam married Archduchess Viridis of Austria. Kardam and Viridis had three children together, Boris, Beltran, and Mariana.
