Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden (born Prince Carl Gustaf of Sweden on 14 January 1947) is the current reigning King of Sweden. He is also a member of the British Royal Family as the brother-in-law of James IV, King of the United Kingdom.
Life[edit | edit source]
Carl Gustaf was born the fifth child and only son of Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Carl Gustaf's father was killed in an airplane crash twelve days after his birth, making the infant heir to the Swedish throne.
Carl Gustaf ascended to the throne upon his grandfather's death in 1973.
Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]
On 14 April 1985, Carl Gustaf married Theresa, Princess Royal in Stockholm. The couple had four children, Ingrid, Carl Johan, Margaretha, and Amelie.
Carl Gustaf was widowed in 2019.
