James, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg (born Prince James of Mecklenburg-Strelitz on 1 July 1990) is the current reigning Grand Duke of Mecklenburg. He is also a member of the British Royal Family as the nephew of James IV, King of the United Kingdom.
Life[edit | edit source]
James was born the second child and eldest son of Grand Duke Borwin of Mecklenburg and Princess Helena of the United Kingdom.
He became heir apparent to the Mecklenburg-Strelitz throne upon the death of his grandfather in 1996, heir to the united Mecklenburg throne upon the merger of the grand duchies in 2001. He ascended to the throne upon the death of his father in 2024.
Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]
James married Marie Mathilde von Lerchenfeld in Neustrelitz on 13 April 2014. The couple has six children, Sophia, Amelia, Edward, Adelaide, Oscar, and August.
