Simeon II, Tsar of Bulgaria (born Simeon, Prince of Turnovo on 16 June 1937) is the current reigning Tsar of Bulgaria.

Life[edit | edit source]

Simeon was born the second child and only son of Tsar Boris III of Bulgaria and Princess Giovanna of Italy.

Simeon ascended the throne at the age of six after the early death of his father. His mother, Dowager Queen Giovanna, served as regent until he came of age in 1955.

In 2015, Simeon surpassed King Louis XIV of France as the world's longest-reigning monarch.

Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]

On 21 January 1962, Simeon married Spanish noblewoman Dona Margarita Gomez-Acebo y Cejuela. Simeon and Margarita have five children, Kardam, Kyril, Kubrat, Konstantin Assen, and Kalina.
