Borwin, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg (born Prince Borwin of Mecklenburg-Strelitz 10 June 1956 - 18 July 2024) was Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz from 1996 to 2001, and Grand Duke of Mecklenburg from 2001 until his death in 2024.
Life
Borwin was born the fourth child and only son of Grand Duke George Alexander of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Archduchess Ilona of Austria.
Borwin became heir apparent to the Mecklenburg-Strelitz throne upon his grandfather's death in 1963. He ascended to the throne upon his father's death in 1996. In 2001, he also became Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the two duchies were merged together to form the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg.
Marriage and Issue
On 19 July 1986, Borwin married Princess Helena of the United Kingdom in Neustrelitz. Borwin and Helena had four children, Olga, James, Alexander, and Michael.
