Casimir, King of the Netherlands (born Prince Casimir of the Netherlands on 20 August 1983) is the current reigning King of the Netherlands. He is also a member of the Mecklenburg Grand Ducal Family as the brother-in-law of James, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg, as well as the Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach Grand Ducal Family as the nephew of Michael, Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach.
Life[edit | edit source]
Casimir was born the eldest child of King Bernhard of the Netherlands and Princess Beatrice Maria of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach.
Casimir became heir to the throne upon the abdication of his grandmother in 2004.
In February 2012, his father was buried under an avalanche while on holiday in Austria. After several weeks, it was announced that the king was indefinitely incapacitated due to his injures and a regency was established, with Casimir serving as regent beginning on 24 February 2012.
Casimir ascended to the throne upon the death of his father in 2013.
Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]
On 21 May 2011, Casimir married Princess Olga of Mecklenburg in Amsterdam. Casimir and Olga have three children, Catharina Amalia, Alexia, and Ariane.
