Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg (born Prince Henri of Luxembourg on 16 April 1955) is the current reigning Grand Duke of Luxembourg. He is also a member of the extended Spanish Royal Family as the uncle-in-law of Juan II, King of Spain.
Life[edit | edit source]
Henri was born the second child and eldest son of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg and Princess Josephine Charlotte of Belgium.
Henri became heir to the throne upon the abdication of his grandmother in 1964. He succeeded to the throne upon the abdication of his father in 2000.
On 24 December 2024, Henri announced his plans to abdicate in favor of his son. The abdication will take place on 3 October 2025.
Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]
On 14 February 1981, Henri married Infanta Maria Teresa of Spain in Luxembourg. Henri and Maria Teresa have five children, Guillaume, Felix, Louis, Alexandra, and Sebastien.
