Max, Crown Prince of Bavaria (born Prince Max of Bavaria on 21 January 1937) is a member of the Bavarian Royal Family as the brother and heir of Franz, King of Bavaria.

Life[edit | edit source]

Franz was born the third child and elder son of King Albrecht of Bavaria and Countess Maria of Trakostjan.

After serving as the heir presumptive for over fifteen years, King Franz named Max as Crown Prince of Bavaria in 2013. In 2023, it was announced by King Franz that he had amended the Bavarian succession laws and Max's second daughter, Marie Caroline, would succeed her father as the first Queen regnant of Bavaria (his eldest daughter, Sophie, having renounced her rights of succession).

Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]

On 24 January 1967, Max married Countess Elisabeth Douglas in Flen, Sweden. The couple have five daughters, Sophie, Marie Caroline, Helena, Elisabeth, and Maria Anna.
