Sophie, Hereditary Princess of Liechtenstein (born Princess Sophie of Bavaria on 28 October 1967) is a member of the Liechtenstein Princely Family as the daughter-in-law of Hans Adam II, Prince of Liechtenstein. She is also a member of the Bavarian Royal Family as the niece of Franz, King of Bavaria.

Life[edit | edit source]

Sophie was born the eldest child of Max, Crown Prince of Bavaria and Countess Elisabeth Douglas.

Since 2004, Sophie's husband has served as regent of Liechtenstein. Following her mother-in-law's death in 2021, Sophie became First Lady of the Liechtenstein Court.

In 2023, Bavarian succession law was changed to allow for female succession. Sophie, as the future Princess consort of Liechtenstein, renounced succession rights for herself and her descendants in favor of her younger sister, Princess Marie Caroline of Bavaria.

Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]

On 3 July 1993, Sophie married Alois, Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein in Vaduz. Alois and Sophie have four children, Joseph Wenzel, Marie Caroline, Georg, and Nikolaus.
